erm - bit of a stretch to call this a Gogol Bordello cover!

Its Joe Strummers version of 'Redemption Song' with someone - I assume Eugene - singing (badly) along in the background and (I assume) Yuri playing along a little towards the end.

Thanks Bossanostra
Is it the same as this? Something here about it being a cover of Joe Strummer's version:

Have to say, you can't beat Bob Marley singing this song Cool

yeah, ok, never said it wasn't - chill - just speculating as to whether that post meant they would only do JS version.

What do you think of the Mescalero's v Johhny Cash versions?

Don't worry! Wink
I couldn't listen to the version in that other post - sooo:
1 wondered if anyone else could ?
2 if so, whether it was the same working of the song as Bossanostra's post ? (or one, ahem, slightly better Embarassed )
3 if they were different what version did the other one resemble ? or
4 If they were the same Do the guys only do Joe Strummer's version?

Phew! Shocked Hope that makes sense! Sorry if it doesn't!

I'd love to hear GB do a proper version of this song, its one of my favourite songs of all time. The Johnny Cash and Joe Strummer version is fantastic, Cash, particularly in those later recordings, brings such a great resonance to the song. The arrangement is good too. The Strummer and the mescaleros version is fantastic. One of my favourite versions is Bob Marley's from his last ever concert. Bob Marley, Joe Strummer and Johnny Cash, you couldn't really ask for better artists RIP.

Thanks.

Know what you mean about Johnny Cash, love his rendition of Redemption Song - love "Mercy Seat" too and the ubiquitous "Hurt". His last recording was just so rich with life/death/meaning.

T'would be good to hear GB do a version of "Redemption Song" with real passion !

@all
maybe is a Joe Strummers arrangement of Bob Marley's "redemption song"
But the people who play it is GOGOL BORDELLO (Yuri, Sergej and Eugene)
I LISTEN it on the Radio (Tropical pizza on Radio Deejay, Italia) I RECORD it from the internet stream. I MAKE it a mp3. I PUT it on line.

@Minkster
Is Gogol Bordello playing a Bob Marley's song?
Is a Gogol Bordello COVER of "Redemption song" Very Happy

bye

PD: the long MP3 that Hoptza!Let'sMakeBaldoria! posts here is from the same radio program...
Don't you, Hoptza?

Its not just Strummers arrangement, its Strummers song. The italian DJ played the track during his interview with Eugene. Yuri and Eugene are just riffing along in the background towards the end, that is all. It is not a new version of the song. It is not a Gogol Bordello cover. If you play this to anyone and say "This is a great Gogol Bordello version of Redemption Song" people will laugh and say, "no its not, its Joe Strummer!". Seriously!

And not sure what part Sergey is supposed to be playing on this!

(This thread has now become silly. Can we all just agree that whilst this has interest to GB fans, its not a new GB song?)

yes sir, but I think that they (Eugene and Yuri) play basing ON Joe Strummer's version and Eugene try to sing on that..

btw, I love that version, with Yuri's accordion.... I'm sure that a complete Gogol Bordello cover would be great!! Shocked
