The afterparty was a sea of papparazzi and camera crews - it was crazy and very strange! I am poisitive there's going to be an awful lot about the gig online! Cocteau and I just saw the band on Ukranian news, heh.

im just glad that all the people in ukraine who were telling me that im listening to "weird shit" sang by a "crazy junkie" now tell me that
"we saw your friend on the news"
and now like the music. of course, it has been approved by the mass media. thats what really counts. like facebook.

Here are some choice pics from the 4 into the morning of the fifth.

One of the best weekends I've ever had. Hope you enjoy.

http://intermobil.info/~ios/albums/2009_12_4-BalkanFest/

Sorry for the poor quality. A bit of noise was added in the resizing. And one picture was heavily photoshoped.

Well I do not know where to start.
Amazing gigs, stage invasions, pre parties, after parties, after after parties, after after after parties at 9am, new friends and even a wedding (no not mine, friends of the local after party musicians.)
I will have more to say tomorrow but for now I sleep.
Pics and videos to come.
It was officially the best weekend ever.
I am certain Charlottewallis and Stolichnaya will have plenty to say (you girls were great company)

Full respect to Eugene,

Singing with the crowd outside the venue at the afterparty with the folks that where waiting a long time to get in. I really hope they eventually got it. My friend recorded this and the only way he got in is a buddy with a VIP card brought him in as a guest.

enjoy:

Hope all can see this, its a facebook video.

I cannot look at Facebook as at work but is this at the second party on the Saturday night. The Security was crazy.
I got very lucky to get in virtually as soon as we arrived and take a friend in (I was on Max's list, but she was not) but I had to argue for a few minutes to get passed the main door to where the guesty list was.
Even inside you got metal detectored after every visit to the loo

Will check the video when I get home.
I wanted to go out to say hi to Sergei an his crew jamming out the front but I thought the security may not let us back in.

Absolutely amazing afterparty photos Anna. Look forward to the videos
Love all the shots of Toporkestra becuase most of mine were quite blurry.
I definitely rate the Friday night the pick of the after parties, but the "after, after party" on Saturday night was better.

Here is Euegene with Emir Kusturica & The No Smoking Orchestra during the final song.

Great pictures from this weekend on here. Haven't had a chance to look at the videos yet but am looking forwards to seeing them when I have proper internet access. Cheers for the Sat night one Matt.

Can't really add to what's already been said - a wonderful weekend.

Yes it is always in my brain as well.
I am glad it was the finale.
It was I think just about the last song I heard in Kiev on the Sunday night as well at the small wedding party with the Toporkestra guys.

Great fun

Does anybody have any links to afterparty vidoes?

Found 1 or 2 from the sullivan rooms.
Would be good to see some from the first night.

For the Russian speakers,

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=uEUQWRJFme8

A friends rough translation

It was something like: "I've always tried to escape from here, but when I lately came back l felt like I painfully missed the place. And I've got the idea that all Eastern Europeans and Latin Americans are very similar spiritually and wanna have fun together. I just wish Ukrainians stop wasting time at the glamorous cafes. Let's drink for visa-free regime between Ukraine and Brazil. My 1000% of love to you and 1000% of excitement. Thanks for your love, support and this afterparty. We'll come back...in April I guess.
And now we all should go to Troyeschina (infamous neighborhood of Kyiv; he even compares it to Bronx) to get some fucking extasy (I can't really translate it, cause it was so beautifully said in Russian, with swearing, slang and stuff. That's when the crowd gets most excited). No, we'd better go to Obolon' (his native neighborhood, where his Grandma and relatives live. Pretty far from downtown), to play reggae music by the river bank" Smile

OK, Me again

This is my complete set of photos from Kiev from start top finish (with some higher quality professional photos pinched from some Ukrainian blogs) I think it sums up the weekend quite well.
Starting at the airport.

Extremely good times.
Finally got round to uploading my videos of Eugene's rather worse for wear acoustic set at the afterparty on the Friday night. Three GB songs, plus a couple of others that I recognise but can't name.

Good clips. More memories.
In the last clip you can just see the guy who grabs Sergei (on the accordion) by the foot while he is playing for some unknown reason and me asking him why he was being a dick head. I ended up with a nasty cut on the hand from that from the edge of the stage trying to stop him.

Santa Marinella? Don't recall that... cut out possibly because of technical difficulties with the guitar and Eugene throwing it down on the stage? Or am I just being forgetful?
